New Violin Concerto

After my autumnal conducting performances, about which I’ve written before, the time has come to sit and compose again. The period from December 2025 to April 2026 is the time when I must finish my Concerto for violin and string orchestra.

The composition will have 3 parts performed attaca, of which the second part will be a number of variations.

As Witold Lutosławski once said – interviewed by Tadeusz Kaczyński – the composer should write the music he himself/she herself would like to listen.

As a conductor I led performances of lots of contemporary works – both very avantgarde ones (Penderecki, Serocki, Lutosławski, Bujarski, Baird) and the “milder” ones (such as Adams, Reich, or Gubajdulina). But when I’m writing, my ears, which would like to listen to this concert in the future, somehow don’t accept these very avantgarde sounds. My imagination leads me towards such violin phrases that would show the instrument’s very singing nature as well as impressively sounding virtuoso elements. Well, so I keep on working and I’m myself very curious where my music imagination will lead me.
